Dear Friends and Family

It is an unfortunate fact that almost everyone will be touched by cancer at some point in their lifetime. Unfortunately, cancer has affected both close friends and loved ones of mine. That’s one reason why I am a huge supporter of “Love, Hope, Strength,” an international charity started by cancer survivors Mike Peters of the Welsh rock band, The Alarm, and President of CSI Entertainment, James Chippendale. Their foundation organizes annual treks and concerts around the world to aid those affected by cancer. We help provide critical funding for cancer centers worldwide so that ALL people have access to quality treatment and given the best
chance at survival. In 2007, I participated in a 14-day trek to the base camp of Mt. Everest. In 2008, the trek took us on a 10-day journey up the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. I can’t begin to explain what an amazing, life-changing experience these trips were for me. On Sept. 27 of this year I, along with 30 other cancer survivors, musicians and supporters, will embark upon another symbolic pilgrimage to Uhuru, the 19,341ft peak of Mount Kilimanjaro. This 13-day trek will take us atop one of the world’s most spectacular mountains to celebrate yet another “Climb Back From Cancer”. To participate in this event, I am required to raise $9,000. Funds raised will be used to fund bone marrow drives and cancer centers worldwide including the main cancer center in East Africa. I would truly appreciate any level of support you can offer. For more information, feel free to contact me at guitarjl@hotmail.com or (970) 379-4890.You are also invited to follow our entire journey through daily journals, podcasts and photos, each day of our trek on the website. Together with your help, we can help take the fight against cancer to new heights! I sincerely thank you for your support as I dedicate this hike to those I love who have been affected by this horrendous disease.
