Julie grew up the oldest of six kids, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Home will always be in Edmonton, but Colorado has been Julie’s home for the past 16 years and has found a special place in her heart as well. She still heads home every summer to spend time in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, Jasper, Alberta with her nephews and niece. Both of her homes have contributed to and nurtured her love of sports and the outdoors. Summers were spent, hiking, fishing, mountain biking and golfing, while winter brought time for skiing, playing hockey, and tobogganing (sledding to those of you in the US). Julie has been blessed to have dual citizenship between Canada and the US and in 1994 & 1995 was a member of the US National Freestyle Ski Team in Aerials. Today she spends most of her time on the slopes hanging out with good friends and enjoying the Colorado mountains. Julie has a love of traveling that has taken her all over the world. She is looking forward to her first trip to Africa and conquering the largest free standing mountain in the world in support of such a worthy cause, not to mention the amazing group of people that will be going with her.
Julie graduated from the University of Colorado-Boulder with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Psychology and went on the attend Regis University where she got her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. For the past 9 years she has been working at local Denver hospitals and Trauma Centers as an Emergency Room Nurse. There she sees first hand the effects of illness and cancer on the human body, and the strength of those that face it head on, and the importance of access to good health care and treatment facilities. Growing up in Edmonton and living in Colorado has also taught Julie the importance of friends, family and being a part of a strong community and support system. Over the years she has seen both the Edmonton and Denver communities show unwavering support for numerous individuals as they faced and fought through their personal battles with cancer.
Julie is excited to join the Love Hope Strength Community as a means to give back and contribute to the fight against cancer on a global level. Julie would like to thank and acknowledge every person that has pledged their support, donated or plans to donate to this great cause. You are encouraged to make a donation big or small, one time or once a month, as every dollar counts! So skip that latte, eat in instead of going out one night, or watch a movie at home instead of in the theater and donate to a great cause! Any amount be it $10, $100 or a $1000 will help meet her goal of over $10,000! And know that every dollar will be used to improve the lives of countless people around the world fighting Cancer. We can and are making a difference ☺
