Irish-born Brooklyn resident Owen Fegan joins the Kilimanjaro Rocks team as official photographer.
A founding member of Irish rock band Rubyhorse, his 16-year musical career saw two major-label recording contracts (Interscope Records and Island Records), a single (Sparkle) which peaked at #21 on the Billboard charts in the summer of 2002, a collaboration with George Harrison on the track “Punchdrunk”, and appearances on the David Letterman Show, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, and Good Morning America. He has toured internationally, sharing stages with artists as diverse as R.E.M., INXS, and Def Leppard. After his departure from Rubyhorse in late 2003, Owen moved to New York City to pursue his lifelong passions of art and photography, as well as his solo musical career.
In 2004, Fegan accepted a position as a Creative Director at SPIN Magazine, remaining close to his love of music, while developing his skills as a photographer. His work has appeared in major commercial campaigns, as well as magazines such as SPIN, Rolling Stone, and Blender, as well as Tom Petty’s “Runnin’ Down A Dream” biography alongside photographers such as Mark Seliger and Annie Leibovitz.
Owen is a Certified scuba diver, sailor, an avid traveler, and in 2007 had the dubious distinction of being voted one of “New York’s 100 Most Eligible Bachelors” by Gotham Magazine. Owen currently resides in New York city, working full time at Rolling Stone magazine.
“Too many people close to me have been affected by this disease,” says Owen, “so I want to do everything within my ability to raise money and awareness for this cause. I’m looking forward to challenging myself both as a trekker, and of course as a photographer.”
