We invite you along on a monumental journey with approximately 100 cancer survivors, musicians, mountaineers and supporters to, once again, celebrate our “Climb Back From Cancer(TM)”.
This event will bring Love Hope and Strength to the people of Peru and to the world. Machu Picchu is probably the most famous archaeological site in all of the Americas. It is certainly one of the most amazing places anywhere on earth and was recently voted one of the 'Seven New Wonders of the World'. The Love Hope Strength Foundation has selected Peru as a destination because of its natural beauty and wonderment.

HOW TO SAVE A LIFE!
LAST YEAR 30,000 PEOPLE NEEDED BONE MARROW DONORS AND ONLY 3,000 FOUND A MATCH.
LOVE HOPE STRENGTH is teaming up with the world's largest marrow donor center, DKMS and Driving for Donors, lead by the dynamic 12 year-old, Pat Pedraja, to set a world record for most bone marrow registrations at a music event. We also hope to dispel the myths that bone marrow donation, if matched, is risky and painful.
Festival goers can stop by the Love Hope Strength Foundation booth to register to become a marrow donor. Registration requires only a cheek swab, and completion of a donor consent form. LHS will also be accepting names for a prayer flag that will be hiked to Machu Picchu, Peru as part of the largest cancer awareness event in Peruvian history. (see Peru Rocks)
"We need to dispel the myth that registering or even becoming a marrow donor is painful," said Katharina Harf, EVP of DKMS Americas. "75% of the time bone marrow cells are collected via the blood stream, while 25% are collected via the pelvic bone; both are out-patient procedures."
"When I was in the hospital getting treatment for cancer, I watched a friend die, not because she had to but because she just couldn't find a match", said 12 year-old Pat Pedraja whose efforts have earned him the honors of People's Choice CNN Hero of the Year. "I am thrilled to go for the record and even more excited about using rock concerts to do so. She would have thought that was so cool".

MUSICFEST ’08 EXPANDS TO TWO-DAY FAMILY FUN
AND ROCK AND ROLL MUSIC FESTIVAL
September 5th & 6th, 2008
Cranford, NJ
Last year, MusicFest drew more than 50,000 attendees and more are expected this year, making the event one of the state’s fastest growing.
MusicFest ’08, a free admission festival now entering its 11th year, kicks off that Friday with concerts from 4-10 p.m. at Nomahegan Park in Cranford. The next morning, the Rock on! Walkathon and 5k Rock N’ Run will precede the festival at 8 a.m. to benefit the Love Hope Strength Foundation and The Valerie Fund (www.thevaleriefund.org).

Love Hope Strength Foundation (LHSF) is an international charity with chapters in the US, UK and Australia. Founded by leukemia survivors Mike Peters of the Welsh rock band the Alarm and President of CSI Entertainment James Chippendale with the goal of providing all cancer patients with the same opportunities that they had, including access to information, quality cancer treatment and the best medication available.
