Hi, I’m Heather Behringer. I am originally from Minnesota but spent my junior high and high school years in Northern California (which was a blast). In 1986 I moved to Texas to be closer to my Dad, and went on to earn a BA from University of Texas at Austin. After University I worked in the commercial real estate industry until I brought my children into the world – Alexandra, 11, Jordan and JD, 8. Currently, I live in Dallas, Texas and I am a “stay at home” Mom, and I love my life.

As most people are able to say, cancer has touched my life everywhere I turn, currently and most significantly; however, my maternal grandfather “Grandad” is battling non Hodgkin’s lymphoma and is currently undergoing treatment. The prognosis now is not known. Grandad has been stable for many years but has recently taken a turn for the worse. Our prayers go out to Grandad and my prayers for him will be on a prayer flag at Pikes Peak!

This trip to Pike Peak rocks, however, will be a celebration for the recovery of those I love who have beaten cancer, James Chippendale, who has been leukemia free for 8 years now YEAH, and my step mom, Janet who has recently beat breast cancer YEAH. After undergoing a double mastectomy and chemotherapy, she is cancer free and will be coming on the Pikes Peaks journey, along with my sister, brother, his girlfriend and father, to “climb back from cancer.” This will be my step mom’s first physical challenge while getting her health back and it is indeed a reason to be joyous and grateful!

Recently I participated in Peru Rocks and found it to be one of, if the not the most, meaningful experiences of my life. To challenge myself physically and enter into a new culture with the intent and purpose of helping the community is beyond explanation. Tangibly seeing who and how the organization is helping in infectious and left me wanting to do more. I hope to be involved in as many Love Hope Strength journeys as possible in the future!
