HPU’S Greek Week Raises Money For Bone Marrow Research

October 7, 2008 – The High Point University Greek community was recently out in full force with its annual “Greek Week” festivities, held Sept. 14-18. While the event was full of fun and excitement, the purpose was ultimately for a good cause. In fact, all monies raised from the week of events benefited bone marrow research.

All 13 fraternities and sororities participated in the week of events, including the kickoff event – a date auction that benefited the Love Hope Strength Foundation, an organization committed to raising awareness about the importance of bone marrow donations for cancer patients.

“I’m proud to say that collectively, the Greek organizations of HPU raised more than $3,000 for the foundation,” says Meredith McCrea, Greek life coordinator and resident director at HPU.

The rest of the week’s events included friendly athletic competition, including tug-of-war, kickball and volleyball, an American Red Cross Blood drive, a toga bowling competition and a pizza eating competition during half-time at a men’s soccer game. The week wrapped up with a lip sync competition, where each team performed a 10- to 12-minute dance routine set to music.
