Kevin Bacon Climbs Pikes for a Cause

The climb really kicked his, uh, tail. But Kevin Bacon gladly hiked 14,110-foot Pikes Peak in Colorado over the weekend to play a concert at the top.Bacon scaled the mountain with his brother, Michael, and about 95 hikers in an event to raise money for the Love Hope Strength Foundation cancer charity. The foundation has held fundraising concerts at Machu Picchu in Peru and Mount Everest to raise money for cancer centers and to raise awareness about bone marrow donation. The brothers got involved with the projects through a friend of a friend who heads the foundation.“It’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever done physically,” Kevin Bacon said after the climb. “When I’m in Los Angeles, I go for a few hikes a week, but I don’t go out for six hours at 14,000 feet. That was new.”

He needed a puff of oxygen at the top before he and the Bacon Brothers band played three songs.

Cy Curnin of rock group the Fixx hiked up the peak with the group, too. He played “Remember Me When I’m Gone” as a tribute to Farrah Fawcett, who died last week after battling anal cancer.
