The second Rhondda Rocks event is set to build on the success of last years event. Please come and support us.
On Saturday August 14th 2010, Mike Peters, the internationally acclaimed singer of Welsh rock and roll band The Alarm will once again host ‘Rhondda Rocks’ for a second successive year running.
For 2010, Rhondda Rocks will follow a similar format to last year with a morning walk in the Dare Valley Country Park, Aberdare, followed by a special acoustic / unplugged concert at the Muni Arts Theatre in Pontypridd. Rhondda Rocks at the Muni will feature a headline performance by Mike Peters and The Alarm with additional appearances from other acclaimed Love Hope Strength foundation supporting musicians.
Mike Peters is once again calling on all members of the Love Hope Strength / Alarm community who are fit and able, to join him in Dare Valley Country Park for ‘Rhondda Rocks II’ (Supported by Barclays) on the weekend of August 14th 2010.

All the funding raised from last years Rhondda Rocks was donated on your behalf by Love Hope Strength Foundation towards the upkeep of the Tenovus mobile cancer unit. Love Hope Strength will be also be hosting a ground breaking Bone Marrow Donor Drive (in conjunction with Anthony Nolan Trust) at the event on Saturday August 14th. “Throughout ‘Rhondda Rocks II’, we will be asking eligible and able bodied members of our community to come forward and put themselves on the Bone Marrow donor list. Being a bone marrow donor in 2010 is a simple, painless and effective way of being a life saver thanks to the benefit of recent scientific breakthroughs that have made this a way to give of yourself and help save someone who’s life is under threat from the deadliest forms of cancer. Together (with the Anthony Nolan Trust), we are hoping to break down the myths surrounding Bone Marrow Donation and show people that the new way to join the register and become a Bone Marrow Donor is as simple as performing a Saliva DNA Sample Test (by spittting into a bottle), and if you are fortunate enough to become a lifesaving match then, via a simple and painless blood transfer process, you could be the one to save someone’s life.”
“All proceeds from ‘Rhondda Rocks II’ will go directly to Cancer Care in South Wales”, says Mike Peters. “Last year’s event was very successful and I hope that in time, ‘Rhondda Rocks’ will become as huge a success as ‘Snowdon Rocks’ has been for North Wales”.
Rhondda Rocks has this year attracted the support of Barclays Bank who are getting behind the event by offering financial support and encouraging staff and customers from within the banking community to get involved and climb in support of the cancer care initiatives that are being proffered by Love Hope Strength Foundation. Throughout 2010, Mike Peters and members of the LHS team have been lobbying in Parliament (with the help of MP’s Chris Ruane (Denbighshire) and Mark Tami (Deeside) to bring the UK into line with other international countries such as Canada and Germany who have progressive policies with regard to Bone Marrow Donors. Mike Peters, Chris Ruane MP, Mark Tami MP and LHSF have been attempting to raise the age of UK Bone Marrow Donors from 45 to 49 to help those in need to find their lifesaving match. As a result of this endeavour, a major review of the UK’s policy is currently being conducted by Health Minister Gillian Merron with results due to be published in the spring.
