Oct 3, 2008 – The Love Hope Strength Foundation (LHS) has announced a 10-day musical journey to benefit cancer patients in Peru. “Peru Rocks” is set to take place in multiple locations throughout the country, uniting eighty musicians, cancer survivors and supporters from around the world. The trek will begin with a visit to the largest cancer care center in Lima and end with a benefit concert on Peru’s Green Coast.
Musicians who will participate include Fastball, the Fixx, Nick Harper and Mike Peters of The Alarm, a co-founder of LHS. “Peru Rocks” will be documented by director Alex Colletti, known for his earlier work in the “Rocks” series (”Everest Rocks”) and his work on MTV’s Unplugged series. There is also an interactive trekker journal at www.perurocks.org for those interested in following along from home.
All proceeds will be used to provide much needed equipment to Peru’s National Institute of Neoplastic Disease. Last year, via “Everest Rocks,” LHS raised awareness for the people of Nepal and purchased the country’s first mammography and internal radiation machines. This year, in addition to purchasing equipment, LHS will also use the money to establish a chapter in Peru to promote cancer care awareness campaigns.
