Freeholder Deborah Scanlon, Union County Manager George W. Devanny and Deputy County Manager M. Elizabeth Genievich will join the Love Hope Strength Foundation’s worldwide efforts to fight cancer on April 16 at the Empire State Building in New York City.
The Foundation has invited a bevy of rock starts, celebrities and elected officials to climb 1,576 stairs to the top of the building as part of its fundraising efforts. The climb is scheduled to begin early morning, with a reception to follow. The foundation has planned three more high-profile events aimed at raising funds and awareness about cancer, including the Union County Musicfest on September 15th in Cranford.
The County will hold a two-mile walkathon prior to MusicFest to benefit LHSF and a statewide charity, the New Jersey Citizens Coalitions for Cures, which supports publicly funded stem cell research. “As someone who is a cancer survivor, I look forward to continuing the effort to raise funds and awareness about this issue.” Said Scanlon. “Cancer has touched the lives of many Union County’s families, and does not discriminate in who it targets,: she said.
