Love Hope Strength Foundation

Team Carter “Boo”

Carter “Boo” Brotherton will forever be an inspiration to Love, Hope, Strength and to all that new him. As a bone marrow recipient, “Boo” was a living symbol of how important becoming a registered bone marrow donor is. It was his bone marrow transplant that helped give him the best chance at a normal, yet abbreviated life. On December 6, 2009, “Boo” suddenly lost his battle with a rare genetic blood disorder, called I-Cell disease. We all have been touched by “Boo” ability to lift every spirit that met him and in some cases, lift spirits of people that never did meet him. He was a special angel on earth, who was ready to have a bigger calling in Heaven… to help other children….to help raise HOPE… To give Strength… To spread LOVE!

When we learned that “Boo” was a candidate for a bone marrow transplant and that finding a match would be difficult because of the rather narrow database of donors was when we learned how important it is to be “On The List”. We spent weeks upon weeks in the hospital as our little warrior took on his donor’s bone marrow, this is where we learned “LOVE, HOPE, STRENGTH” Although “Boo” didn’t have cancer, we met many other children battling and overcoming this horrific disease. We learned first hand what bone marrow transplants meant to these children and we saw the miracles from this procedure happening right before our eyes. We saw a little girl our sons age was on her way home, 8 weeks after receiving her bone marrow transplant that was CURING her of her Leukemia. I can tell you this she never lost “HOPE”, she showed super-human “STRENGTH” and she was full of “LOVE”, just like our “Boo”!

Help us to continue to spread the words “LOVE, HOPE, STRENGTH”!  All of us on Team Carter “Boo” are all making this symbolic climb in honor of not only “Boo” but for all the children that strive to overcome and beat the odds. They have such lofty goals to be met in life, as do we….

MEMBERS OF TEAM CARTER

Trent Brotherton – “Boo’s” daddy. Although a long-time Denver resident, this will be Trent’s first 14′er. He is extremely afraid of heights and working out… Two fears he is putting aside to honor “Boo’s” courage to battle everyday.

Anne Frye – My name is Anne Frye, and I am hiking in memory of the light that is little Carter Boo.  As a new mother to Zelda June, I would like to pass Carter’s strength and unconditional love along to my daughter.

Adam Murphy – My name is Adam Murphy and I am hiking my first Fourteener in memory of Carter who touched so many lives with his courage and love.  I feel so lucky to have spent time with Carter and honored to be a part of such a special team.

Mike Kienast – My name is Mike Kienast and I’m hiking in memory of our friend Greg Altomari, and our boy ” Boo” Carter, who touched us all with their smiles, courage and their tremendous hearts.

Kristi Mathieson – I want to climb pikes peak in memory of my nephew, Carter “Boo” Brotherton.  Throughout his short life, he showed us all what Love, Hope and Strength is.  It’s because of his example, that I’m inspired to climb my first fourteener.  I’m going to need love, hope and strength!

Gus and Kristen Wakat. This is our second trip up Pikes Peak for Team Carter. Carter will always and continue to be an inspiration in our life.
